While visiting Tainan today, I made my customary trip to Hayashi Department Store.
At a street corner, I spotted a huge line of people queuing along the roadside.
I initially planned to walk past, but curiosity got the better of me and I joined the line to try one.
After tasting it, I was completely amazed!
The freshly made Tangkou pan-fried buns were incredibly delicious - the fresh ingredients really made all the difference.
Paired with their signature sauce, I couldn't stop eating one after another!
If you visit Hayashi Department Store, I highly recommend stopping by.
Despite the line, the staff works efficiently so the wait isn't too long.

Every Tainan trip includes Hayashi Department Store, and today on my way there, I spotted this bun shop with a long queue at the corner.
I almost walked past, but thought - in Tainan's food paradise, any place with a line must be special - so I joined the queue!
I later learned Tangkou only operates 4 hours daily.
The kicker? The owner takes random days off, so if you see it open, you must queue!
Everything here is made fresh - from dough to filling.
The owner makes and cooks them on the spot.
This is exactly why the buns taste so fresh and delicious!
This shop has real character.
Understandable though - with just two people handling wrapping, cooking, and payments, it's hard to keep smiling.
Especially with that never-ending line - the pressure must be intense.
The owner works lightning fast.
When a batch is ready, customers order how many they want - straight from the pan, perfectly fresh.
With so much food to try in Tainan, I only bought one to sample.
Remember - always add the chili sauce for full flavor.
Warning - fresh from the pan means scalding hot!
Be extra careful giving these to children.
I could barely hold mine without burning my fingers!
But that first hot bite releases incredible aromas.
The cabbage bursts with natural sweetness and savory flavors that make your mouth water.
The cabbage pieces are larger and lightly cooked, retaining crispness and moisture.
Paired with the thin, tender-chewy wrapper, you can't help but keep eating.
This place absolutely lives up to its reputation - no wonder 4 hours is enough!
You'll definitely want another immediately after finishing.
